Five Reasons to Define Your Style

The kick off of our spring Wine and Design series will be Thursday evening March 4th with "Defining Your Style; It's All About You!" The Wine and Design Series have become some of the most popular events that we host at Nandina. They are usually interactive in nature (the wine helps with that!), and our design staff works hard to choose subjects that are timely and interesting to our clients. If you want more information about date, time, and admission go to our web site wine & design spring series
Maybe the idea of defining your style doesn't really rock your boat. Maybe you are more of a free spirit and like to experiment with a little of every style. Well guess what? There is a "style for that"! It is called eclectic style.
So, why is it valuable to know if you lean toward traditional, transitional, modern, or eclectic, or anything in between? Knowing what you really love to surround yourself with, and the environment that will best represent your personal style will assure you feel really at home in your home! In addition to the emotional element of choosing the right design for a single room or for your whole house, there is the financial element. Knowing your style preferences and how they fit together can eliminate the waste of time and money in all aspects of your design process.
So... Five Top Reasons it is important to identify your style:

1. You will become a selective shopper and won't fall prey to impulse buys! If you know your style you won't be tempted by that frilly eyelet bedskirt for your new sleek modern tone on tone bedroom.

2. Investment purchasing will be part of your long term design strategy. If you are really comfortable with your personal style, you will know that investing in a fabulous mid-century modern desk for your apartment now, will still work great in your custom built home twenty years from now. Repurposing wonderful investment pieces will become the highlight of your next project!

3. Your rooms will fit you, just like your favorite clothes do! You can always tell when someone is comfortable in their skin. They have defined their look and they understand how to incorporate fashionable trends without loosing their signature style. The same is true in design. Once you know what you love, stick with it! That doesn't mean that you allow your interiors to become stodgy and dated!! The new traditional is not your grandmother's florals, or even your mother's chintzes.

4. The more you understand the style you love, the more you will be able to do the look for less! If you love modern architecture and design, but you really can't swing that original Barcelona chair, you will recognize a great knock off when you see it! Once you recognize that you are a traditionalist or romantic or mid-century modern fanatic - you will be able to become a walking encyclopedia of that style. Thus preparing you to pass off the lower priced fill in for the one of a kind $$$$ original!

5. You will love the look and feel of your home! Ultimately, the end result of any re-design or first design is how it makes you feel. If you love it then you know that it represents your style! And in this day and age we all need a home that we love to come home to!

Before and After Photos

As promised here are a couple of before and after photos of our most recent design project. Our clients really wanted a lighter feel for the room with color. It required painting out the trim, designing additions to the build ins around the fireplace and replacing the mantel. What do you think?
